Spicy Grilled Mackerel with Korean Marinade Recipe

The tender, flaky fish is packed with the savoury flavours of gochujang, soy sauce, and garlic, making it a perfectly balanced meal. Serve it with steamed rice and a side of kimchi for a true Korean dining experience.

Ingredients:

  • 4 mackerel fillets (approx. 500g)
  • 2 tbsp gochujang (Korean chilli paste)
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp Korean chilli flakes (gochugaru)
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds, for garnish
  • 2 spring onions, sliced, for garnish

Instructions:

    In a bowl, mix gochujang, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, sugar, and chilli flakes. Coat the mackerel fillets with the marinade and allow them to rest for 30 minutes in the fridge.

    Preheat the grill to medium-high. Grill the marinated mackerel fillets for 4-5 minutes on each side, until the fish is cooked through and has a slightly charred exterior.
