Zesty Herb Tuna Skewers
Imagine succulent cubes of tuna bathed in a tangy lemon and herb marinade, interlaced with vibrant red onion and a hint of chilli. This modern Australian seafood dish offers a burst of citrus, aromatic basil, and a gentle kick of spice, evoking a sunny coastal feast.
Ingredients:
- 500 grams Tuna steak (cubed)
- 30 millilitres Extra virgin olive oil
- 30 millilitres Lemon juice
- 2 pieces Garlic cloves (minced)
- 1 piece Red chilli (deseeded and chopped)
- 1 piece Red onion (cut into wedges)
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
- 10 grams Fresh basil leaves (roughly torn)
Instructions:
-
1 Step 1 - Prepare the Marinade
In a medium bowl, combine olive oil, soy sauce, lemon juice, minced garlic, grated ginger, and honey. Whisk the mixture until well blended. Add a pinch of salt and pepper to taste. This marinade will infuse the tuna with rich, savory flavors while keeping it tender.
-
2 Step 2 - Marinate the Tuna
Add the cubed tuna into the bowl with the marinade. Toss gently to ensure all pieces are coated evenly. Cover the bowl and let the tuna marinate in the fridge for at least 30 minutes (up to 2 hours for deeper flavor). If you enjoy a hint of spice, add sliced red chili to the mix.
-
3 Step 3 - Assemble the Skewers
Take the marinated tuna out of the fridge. Thread the tuna cubes onto skewers, alternating with chunks of red onion and fresh basil leaves. This layering adds flavor and a beautiful visual contrast.
-
4 Step 4 - Grill the Skewers
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Place the skewers on the grill and cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the tuna is seared on the outside but still tender inside. Avoid overcooking to maintain the tuna's juiciness.
-
5 Step 5 - Final Touch and Serve
Once the skewers are grilled to perfection, remove them from the heat and place them on a serving platter. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the top and sprinkle with chopped herbs for an added burst of flavor. Serve immediately with extra lemon wedges on the side.
